Calidris alpina
This medium sized sandpiper is a common sight
on beaches around North America. They breed
across the North and winter on both the Pacific
and Atlantic Coasts. The can be distinguished
from other sandpipers by their long drooping
bill. At breeding time the adults backs, turn a
reddish brown, with black on the breast.
