American Goldfinch

These bright, shy birds are frequent visitors to many backyard bird feeders. The
males turn brilliant yellow in the late spring as they prepare to find a mate. The
females are much darker, but still have the black and white wings which is an
easy identifier of this species. The nonbreeding plumage of both sexes is very
drab, pale brown
